Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
Our Founder, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche is the inspiration behind the Southwest Dharma Celebration. He is a fully accomplished meditation master and internationally renowned teacher of Buddhism. He founded the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union in England in the early 1980s. Since that time, he has written more than 22 authoritative books on Buddhism and meditation and has helped to found hundreds of Buddhist Centers, Festivals and Celebrations throughout the world.
In his teachings Geshe Kelsang emphasizes the importance of meditation and how to apply it in daily life, the need to be truly happy, and how to cultivate a good heart to help others — and he demonstrates these qualities perfectly in his own life.
This remarkable Teacher inspires so many people from so many different countries because he teaches from example. He is a humble Buddhist monk dedicated to helping people throughout the world find true happiness in their hearts.
Gen Rigpa is the Western US National Spiritual Director of the NKT-IKBU. He is also the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center Hollywood. He will grant the blessing empowerment of Dorje Shugden and give teachings.
Gen Rigpa’s heartfelt and practical teachings are presented with warmth and humor, making them accessible to everyone. He shows the joy of living a spiritual life, and is an inspiring example of Modern Buddhism in practice. Through his clear presentation, he is able to help student discover for themselves how to integrate these timeless teachings into our modern world, making everyday life joyful and meaningful.
One of the senior teachers of Kadampa Buddhism, Kadam Lucy has taught extensively in England, Florida, and San Francisco, and helped set up many thriving Buddhist meditation centers in the past 35 years. She is regularly invited to teach courses around the United States and United Kingdom due to her skill in presenting both simple and profound subjects with great clarity. She will be guiding the meditations at the Southwest Dharma Celebration.
Kadam Lucy’s main job for many years was also to help edit and produce Geshe Kelsang’s books. Until quite recently, she was on a long meditation retreat.
Gen Kelsang Menla has studied under the guidance of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over 20 years and was requested by him to become the Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Center Texas in June 2017. Gen Menla was ordained as a Kadampa Buddhist monk in 2001 and has worked and taught within the New Kadampa Tradition for many years. He brings a warm heart and joyful attitude to sharing Buddha’s teachings and the practice of meditation.
